Fri 27 Mar 2015 Year 5 Whitney class

On Friday 27th March, Mount Whitney enjoyed an exciting trip into London as part of their Learning Pathway studies of the Tudors.

This included going on board the Golden Hinde II, a full-sized reconstruction of the ship Sir Francis Drake used to circumnavigate the globe between 1577 - 80.

The children took part in a variety of workshops helping them to understand all about life at sea during the 16th century through interactive sessions on navigation, weaponry, living conditions, food and provisions. The class were tested to find their roles among the crew - climbing the rigging as agile top-men or saving lives as steady handed surgeons?
The children handled navigation equipment, had a full anchor session, handled replica Tudor weapons and studied the diet and provisions of a Tudor sailor.
